Part One
|
"It's like Late 'n Live, but we're actually on stage with the comedians (as the house band) and sometimes part of the act. It's very exiting and stressful. Last night I got to warm up the crowd with our punk-rock version of the Bee Gees' How Deep Is Your Love, which set the tone nicely, and the keyboard player was mock-raped by Michael Richards. In front of 800 people." |
He wasn't joking about the good reception they've been getting at Aspen - news just in, as reported on the Chortle website, is that the Otis Lee Crenshaw show has been named best alternative act at the eighth US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen! |
After much touring of Australia and short messages here and there from both, Damian this time sends some holiday snaps...
"... hoping that you get this picture. I met
Michael Richards in Aspen, in fact we were doing a show with him. We were
the house band and he the mad host.
Having a great time out here, right now in Melbourne, then Sydney next week." |
"...and another one taken in Adelaide on the
balcony of our venue with Jeff Green. You will notice tom yum soup on my
shirt that I had spilled earlier that day."
(note from 'tess - if you are now asking yourselves "Who is Jeff Green?" see www.jeffgreen.co.uk) |

"Hello again, I have more! Here are two, with Christian and I outside our casino/venue in Las Vegas, you can see Rich's billing..." |
"...and another at the Aspen USCAF with Vic Henly, and Ben Bailey [who looks like de Niro] a New York comic and great guys the pair of them. Guess who's sober? " |
Damian again...
"Hey there, or G'day, so first night at the Sydney Opera House has been and gone, and I'm pleased to say was a success. Although we sold out many people didn't show up and apparently that's Sydney for you.
The show was well received and we did an encore with a new song called I'M BLUE, another new song as yet untitled where we all get a verse to sing about our respective instruments - maybe it would be called THE PIANO/GUITAR/BASS IS LIKE A WOMAN, but it isn't. we have at least 4 new songs to bring back so far, Rich is working hard for the UK tour.
I'm getting more pics today so maybe there's more to come your way soon, off to the beach now then back to the grind at SOH tonight, it's Lano and Woodleys opening party too."
Christian writes...
"...some stand up dates for me when I get back (see Gigs page)...me and Rich did a song on national radio (Triple J) the other day, and I got to banter a very tiny bit with the interviewer. Nice to get a speaking part from time to time...All in all I've had fun, but am looking forward to coming home"

Yours truly, the Priestess writes this time...
"Went up to London to see Christian do a solo gig, in the brief gap between Australian and UK/Ireland tour legs - first time we've been face-to-face in two months so much to talk about...
After he's done we go to the Borderline, just over the road, to see Robbie Fulks (pictured left), and all of Otis Lee Crenshaw and the Black Liars are there also (apart from fiddle section, so there's Christian as previously mentioned, Rich, Damian, Catherine and Rob, plus Damian's other half Kate and Rob's other half whose name escapes me, sorry!). We have to watch the gig from various vantage points on the stairs, as the venue is heaving so we can't get any further in, especially as Christian has his guitar with him. It's wonderful to say hello to everyone after all this time!
Much to talk about with everyone, including website, upcoming tour and the recording of Catherine's album, which is out in September."
More missives from their travels later, no doubt.
